Totoro Forest Project...the Postcard

Good morning everybody!
I'm pretty excited about this.
I received a postcard for the Totoro project which I blogged about earlier this month, and, to my surprise, my image is a part of the postcard!
It's the red one on the right side, middle row, close to the text in the center!
I know it's not a "real" post...but, what a great way to plug in this great event , no?

It all started on a muggy day in late July...

Back from the con..tired...

Another con down!
What a convention this time though. It was so much more intense than the two previous ones I'd been at, and I sold out of books by lunchtime on Saturday morning, AND I had brought a lot more books than the previous years!
I did keep some at home for the rest of the year though, so, anybody that still wants one, please email me and I will send you one!

I'm probably going to repost about the Convention in a later post, maybe even today to talk about the various people I met there, the greatest talents and the funny things that happened, but for the moment, I need to wake up and catch up on WORK!
Ho god.. is it hard today!

Totoro Forest Project

This is a piece I did for a charity event that will be held at Pixar in late August.
I was lucky enough to be invited to participate in this, among other EXTREMELY talented artists.

San Francisco

Now that I go to a studio in town, everyday I ride my bike down Market street.
The view I have from there is completely surreal on a regular basis, but, this morning, with the fog rolls over the city, and the sun coming up behind it, I had the impression of biking through a Turner painting, just.. you know.. bigger!
This sketch does not really capture at all the beauty of it, but, I think you should "get" how much I love this city!

Sugar Danny's

If you are in the Bay area and you need a cake, a dozen cupcakes, a batch of cookies,some brownies or tarts for a birthday, a meeting, a brainstorm or anything baked for any reason, I'd STRONGLY suggest you guys try out Sugar Danny's stuff.

First of all, THANK YOU so much for all the phenomenally supportive emails I've received about Naya's passing away. I didn't realize so many people would send personal mails. THANK YOU, thank you.

This is the actual sketch of the day, (but I did it a few days ago!)




The blue and orange one is another collage/textured test. I think it's only OK..but you tell me. I didn't spend enough time on it I think.




And, lastly, a little straight ahead animation..I just needed to zone out for a while and this came out! It feels good to animate again, even if it's total nonsense!

Another Tuesday commute

hmm..This morning started really nice and easy going, and BOOM, ...tons of stuff to do. I had to rush through the end of this one, stopped it, started it again so it didn't come out how I originally intended it to, BUT... here it is!

Monday !!

YEAH! Got a new computer finally!
There are a few things to update on it, but, it's 95 percent AWESOME!( and tonight, when I'm done with it, it should be 100 percent!)
I'm back, and I'm busy!

On a side note.
I had a GREAT weekend.Yesterday was father's day, and we brought our Wii to katrina's parents place. I had the impression we were living the commercial where everybody gathers around to play. What a phenomenally fun experience!
I can't wait to get the Wii fit now!

Lack of posts

This is one of those times when I realize how depending I am on technology.
My desktop is having major major issues with connectivity.
I'm writting from a laptop right now, because my main machine freezes anytime I try and connect to the internet.
Hence, I can't post drawings, listen to Itunes music, or chat, all three of which are basics element of my work these days.
I can't post sketches of the day, although I could do them...but I just don't feel like it if I can't send them off. Interesting..ten years ago, if someone would ahve told me this situation would exist, I would have thought it would be a joke!

Anyhow...

Under the Muffin tree

Potential Oogeley Boogeley 3 cover? EDIT

.I'm doing some test for the cover for the next Oogeley Boogeley book.
Like the last two, it'll be a long format.
This is my first test. I like the idea, but I'll keep searching..if anything, this is a fun image!

For a little while here, I'll be transitioning from sketch of the day to , I dunno.. sketch of the every two day? week?...It'll be a little bit before I get a new "routine" going, plus, I'm getting ready for comic con, and i do have quite a bit of work to do as well ... as usual

Thanks for the ton of email on that cover. It was just a first idea, but the more I looked at it, the less I liked the color, and Tony's comment was spot on..not right for a cover. If I want to make more of an impact, I need something more"vibrant"
here's a redesign of it..still not finished but...

Sketch number ONE THOUSAND!! ( and 1001)

I now have 1000 sketches in my folder of sketches of the day! ( I actually have more than that, but, from the time I started numbering them for the daily dose of imagery that I've been doing for the past three years, this is it! 1000.
And, a little goodbye one for good measure...that makes 1001, like the Arabian nights!

This doesn't mean I'm abandoning the blog, or drawing everyday, it just means that I'll change the way I do things, and give myself some new challenges from now on!
