Carving Night

Carving Night( Last chance for Halloween so I just went for it!)
The second one is a more classic version( Carving pumpkins is MESSY!)
The third one was just a doodle castle thing that I liked so here it is!
Happy Halloween.

Slumps and stuff.

 Slumps and stuff.
This one started really organically.
I was feeling stuck with my work so I doodled the guy walking on the tree trunk, then did the rest of the scene around then drew the rest of the story.
That was fun!

On the corner of University and 6th

On the corner of University and 6th.
Just like last week.. I was walking my daughter to school this morning and it was another nice and warm L.A. day... So I figured I'd just try to capture it.
For this one, I did take a picture of the place with my phone. I mention it because I usually just try to do it from memory but this time I really wanted to work on my values!

Trash

When I was in college I worked at this restaurant nearby.
As odd as it sound,  taking the trash out at the end of the service was always a relief because the kitchen was so hot and it was so cool outside.
Weird subject I know but it actually brings back good memories.
On a different note.. I feel like I just stumbled into a new area of art where all of a sudden I know nothing at all. Does that ever happen to you guys? When you are strolling along with your art and Boom.. you uncover this one little way of doing shapes, painting a cloud, seeing a relationship between space and objects and all of sudden it's like you're a baby and you are relearning art? Is that just me??
Just curious.

The things we do when no one is looking.

The things we do when no one is looking.
Another quick-is/lazy-ish image.. I used big fat brush strokes for these, but for the bed one I went over the brush strokes with a black line to see what it would do!
The other one was just a doodle but I liked it so I kept it.

Walking to school

This one is a little different than most of my other sketches.
This morning, when I was walking the kids to school I couldn't help but notice the strong lighting and crispness of the air.
When I got back I tried getting a small sketch down on paper, then digitally...and then I worked it a little more than I thought and I got this.
So.. it was JUST supposed to be a thumbnail ( and it still is in a way).. I just made it bigger, added a few details and contrasted the lighting.

That's it

Shadow worlds

Shadow Worlds

I don’t have time for more complex pieces right now so I’m just exploring with big bold strokes( at least, bold for me!)

The END of a looooooooong day!
Yeah.. it's over.
Just an FYI.. I'm going to be pretty busy for the next few weeks, so expect some reposts, some simpler sketches or just nothing at all!

Early on a rainy Sunday morning

Early on a rainy Sunday Morning.
#pascalcampion

There is a little process thingy here. I don’t always work like this, but this “a” way of working for me.
I mainly try to keep it loose and not worry too much bout being accurate in the drawing itself.

For me, the pleasure comes both from the finished image as well as from the act of doing it.

That said, sometimes I do try to make images in a cleaner way and the process for these is not always as fun but the results can be better.

What I am trying to say is that I don’t have just one way of drawing, or reason for drawing.
It changes a lot.

I think I would not like art a much of it was always the same thing or done the same way or for the same reasons. I don’t always want to do a perfect drawing for instance, or something original. Sometimes I do but sometimes I just want to draw for the sake of drawing, and sometimes I draw because I have something to say and I am good with worlds, and sometimes I actually want to do a good drawing or a good painting... and there are more reasons and goals and such but it’s enough writing for one post , no?

A trick AND a treat

A Trick AND a Treat.
This is basically the same sketch as last week.
The first one was a doodle but I liked it so I wanted to see if I could reuse the character.
The second image is just sketches of witches that I thought were cute and I want to do something with them at some point so I put them here to remind myself to get back to them.
That's all!

The path between.

The Path Between
Another sketch from Huntington Library.
There is a path that goes from the Japanese Garden to the Chinese Garden that I really enjoy.
This is another down and dirty sketch mainly because I kept being interrupted every few minutes while trying to do this one. but.. I like the way it came out... a little understated.

Somewhere in Pasadena

Somewhere in Pasadena
We went to the Huntington library today and on the way back the light was falling and for some reason this image caught my attention so when I got home I tried to capture that.
It’s a super dirty rough because it’s just a memory of what I saw, but I think it gets the feeling across.
